After a long wait, I have finally tasted Eagle Rare! Firstly I'd recommend Blanton's Gold Edition over this and I'll explain why:
Light perfume notes (which I can't grasp), medicinal rye, oak, followed by a poke of bitterness, leading to charred wood, leather, spice, then grapefruit (ever so dryly and lightly), cinnamon and unripe mirabelle. The texture also evolves, from a watery start, growing oilier and ending dryly.
All in all, an austere and savoury whiskey. It resembles Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select in its elegant succession of flavours. I prefer complex whiskys from Scotland or more generous whiskeys like Blanton's Gold Edition, so I must admit that this whiskey is impressive... But it isn't an easy drink and not a pleasant one in my opinion.
