As much as I hate business traveling, one of the perks is picking up whiskies not often available state side. I was lrecently in Manchester, and picked this up from the duty free. Not bad---$90 for a liter. II'm still partial to the DE as my hands down favorite (and furthermore, it always reminds me of my late mom's fresh homemade samosas with this spicy smoked tomato tamarind chutney), but this is almost up there. Modern Drinking and Peter Kaalundi's review nail it---this starts off with a smoky seawater aroma, and the taste then continues starting with brine and smoke, but quickly converts to a sticky smoky sweet, like a Kansas City barbecue. This is no where as "grow hair on your chest" strong smoke like the 16, or the samosas of DE, but I'd say somewhere in between. If you happen to be coming up on an international trip, save space in the hand luggage for this. It's well worth it.

@adaminak: I'm currently working through my third bottle of Lore and if the PX is anything close to that it is flat out amazing. Upon my first tasting of Lore I happened to have had a bottle of QC open and tried it immediately behind the Lore and it made the QC taste downright light. I loved QC until my first taste of Lore. I have a feeling the PX is going to fall squarely in between those two, which would be perfectly fine by me. Cheers.
Lee; I've not yet had the Lore, but the QC is one of my favorites. This is much richer and heavier than the QC, and while the QC for me toes the line just a bit to the sweet side, The PX has a lot of savory notes in it that remind me of the 10yr Cask Strength and the original 15yr of old times.
No worries, Pranay. I was just interested in your take on how it compares to others in the Laphroiag line, such as the Quarter Cask or even Lore, that are readily available in the states.
Hey Lee---yeah I was comparing to the Lag---reminded me of something between the Lag 16 and DE. Sorry---I crossed over to the other side of Islay to compare. ( oh---you'll be trying this soon enough---maybe by Mon or Tue 😊
Excellent review, Pranay. I'm a bit confused though, are you comparing the PX Cask to Lagavulin 16 and the DE? I wasn't aware Laphroiag had a 16 year old or distiller's edition. Are these travel exclusive Laphroaig's as well? It doesn't matter much I guess, but I've had the PX cask on my bucket list for quite awhile. I don't do much traveling, let alone international, so I was sure I might never get to try this one. I'm a big fan of anything Pedro Ximenez finished so I'm really looking forward to this sample the most. Thanks for saving me a taste. I'm as giddy as a kid on Christmas morning, lol. Cheers, my friend.
