Laphroaig 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

My first peated whisky. It has a more pronounciated nose and taste compared to my earlier single malts, but that makes it even easier to describe: smoke and peat, salt and pepper, with a hint of tart and vanilla. Somehow, this 10 year old makes me think of a late-night campfire on a stormy beach... :).
Great dram! (Mine's bottled at 40% abv)

This was my first highly peated wiskey, and I absolutely loved it. I dream of going to Islay someday.
Lagavulin 16 absolutely rocks! My review of it is forthcoming. BTW: Laphroaig 10 was my first peated malt, too, and I absolutely hated it. I haven't tried it since. However, my palate has grown much more experienced through exposure to prayed malts over the last 18 months, so I have vowed to give it another and perhaps more fair hearing I the near future. Stay tuned.
First peated whisky, and a Laphroaig no less, and you're still here. Try the Ardbeg next. Or Lagavulin 16,
How about an Ardbeg 10? It's ranked pretty high on my wishlist :). I also enjoy non-peated drams though. Quite interested in Bruichladdich, too.
Straight in at the deep peaty end. If it's most peoples first peaty whisky they run a mile from peat there after. If you like that one no other Islay should phase you. Enjoy your peat journey :-)
