As many have done, I’m going to skip the detailed tasting notes and just say “dittos” all around. This is unquestionably solid, sensual, and enjoyable. The peat is elegant and restrained. The taste and feel are substantial. The finish is long and warming. But for its skyrocketing price ($140 USD in Tampa, versus $85 just a few years ago), this would be a mainstay. When it comes to peated Highland malts, Talisker 10 is my go to. As this is more restrained and elegant, I would have to agree with the expert and put this in the very high 90’s (98? 99?) for a solid 5 stars.

Co Mayo, I'd bet we're not the only ones. I'd have to put HP 18 at the top of the heap of whiskies I've tried this far, but I'm just not willing to shell out that much cash very frequently. It's definitely a special occasion dram.
Spot on review and yes for the value I prefer the Talisker 10. I always have a bottle of each around but the Talisker certainly goes a littler quicker!
I had a friend talk about this at dinner tonight. It's still his all time favorite.
@Soba45, I'm with you there!
I also love the Talisker 10. Great whisky for the price. Tried the HP 18 donkeys ago before I was properly into whisky so looking forward to trying out a few drams again some time to really see how i rate it. So many whiskys to try and unfortunately only one liver :-)
