Vida is most often recommended as a good place to start for those new to mezcal. At least in 2017 and beyond I'd recommend starting elsewhere. It's not very enjoyable to sip and the price keeps creeping up. It's really only about $5 less now than something that is good for entry level sipping as well as mixing. Do a little research and start with a Mezcal that retails for $39 and up.
