During a business trip in Germany, the waiter offered me a free sample of their' German Whisky, after a few Scottish Single Malts. Unsurprisingly, due the pale yellow collar, it taste young quite young and a bit sharp. I tasted some sweet notes, but the finish was a bit bland, and short. Not bad, but might need some extra maturation.

Yes, absolutely. :)
Probably a bit unfair, tasting this young whisky after having drunk some Scottish Single Malts ;-)
Being used to the heavier and tastier Belgian (specialty) beers (Leffe, Chimay, ...), I'm afraid German beer would even be a worse option for me :).
I had this at the Munich airport, they were giving out samples. It's not bad, but has a ways to go. For now, when going with German spirits, I'll stick to their beer and Reislings
