An unassuming weak tea color in the glass belies the delights that await. It's like a more sophisticated version of the Laphroaig PX, with a darker finish of dried figs. Really opens up with a few drops of water to reveal seaweed, dark chocolate Kit Kats and Ricola herb drops. A 4.6/5, but we'll round it up to five on the starometer. Best of the Feis Ile bunch, which was a surprise given that I've always ignored this distillery.

Ah would have loved to attend a session like that. Down in my neck of the woods we rarely have any tasting that special sadly. Still Dramfest next march in Nz should have some good stuff :-)
And here's an overall ranking of the eight samples: 1 BUNNAHABHAIN; 2= KILCHOMAN & CAOL ILA; 4 LAPHROAIG; 5 BOWMORE; 6= BRUICHLADDICH & ARDBEG; 8 LAGAVULIN
There was one other bottle I tried at the Feis Ile masterclass that isn't on Distiller, so I'll mention it here: BOWMORE 11 YEAR - It's the color of engine oil or Lyons Golden Syrup. Smells like baked apples with their skins starting to burn. Flavors of dark chocolate, caramel and syrup of figs (or at least a distant memory of the latter -- I haven't needed it in years!) My one knock against it is that it feels a little watery in the mouth, despite its high proof. 4.2/5
