Balvenie Peated Triple Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland

A Balvenie with balls was what I was hoping for when this was announced, and it doesn't disappoint. As much as I enjoy a smooth honeyed Balvenie, it's not the most challenging of Scotches. But add a dash of peat and you get a slightly dangerous twist, a Speyside take on emo Peter Parker*. There's honey and spice on the nose, and it's there too on the palette. The peat isn't Ardbegian, rather it's a dash of pepper in a fresh, creamy, smooth mouthful. The finish is long and peppery, with hints of orange and caramel. A real treat amid the gallons of NASty Duty Free swill.

@LeeEvolved Showed up on my credit card bill as $90, so I think it was about 70 pounds. Just about worth it, though I did hesitate at the price. @Telex I wouldn't put this in the same class as Talisker 18, which is one of my favorites. It's still a Balvenie at heart, just with a dash of island seasoning.
Hehe nice one. Sounds a bit like a Talisker 18 ish? What do you think?
A peated Balvenie??!! Mighty ballsy of them.
Nice review :)
Great review, sir. What is the price point here? I'm envisioning $70-80 or more. Is it intriguing enough to justify that? Great coining of a new scotch term, as well. "NASty" should be added to the vernacular immediately. Cheers.
NASty, I like it. I've had some really good travel retail exclusive whiskies from duty free. Ardmore tradition, Bowmore Gold Reef, and one of the finest single malts I've ever had the Macallan Rare Cask Black.
Haha, I like it NASty! Nice review, look forward to sampling this one.
