I must commend Lagavulin for giving this 200th Anniversary bottling an honest age statement instead of opting for NAS! Fresh and vibrant notes of sea salt, smoked cheese and gentle, earthy peatiness greet the nose, followed by anise, sweet berries and traces of diesel oil. Tasting pure and entirely spirit-driven (8 years!), this single malt features a convincing simplicity: crisp apples, roasted peanuts and creamy honey are buried under a thick layer of dry ash. The lasting finish bids farewell with pickled ginger, salt sticks and a dash of sucrose. A true delight!

@BDanner: Most peated malts were already mentioned, but do not forget to try Caol Ila 12yr if you like some real 'bonfire peat smoke'. Good luck with your peat experience!
@BDanner. I second Paul's list---they're all good and affordable peated versions. One more I'd add to that list would be Compass Box Glasgow blend...at about $35-40, it's reasonable and peated enough ( no where as close to Lag16 or Laph10 though)
@BDanner Ardbeg 10, Ardmore tradition, any of the peated BenRiachs, Compass Box Peat Monster are all good examples. Once you get your feet wet you can up the ante and get the Corryvreckan or Uigeadail from Ardbeg, Lagavulin 12 or 16, Laphroaig Lore, or any other of a myriad of peated single malts

Slainte-Mhath...Finally dove headlong into the heated Scotch world with a bottle of Laphroaig 10 and LOVED it. Where do I go from there and still keep it reasonably priced?
I suspect it's rather the price of the 16-year-old Lagavulin being doubled on the long run! The 'premiumisation' of their flagship bottling was to be expected sooner or later...
Wonder if that means the price will drop since it's no longer a commemorative bottling.
New core range bottling! I spoke to brand ambassador Mikael Lundén today, and he told me about an internal Diageo email (3.11.17) announcing that Lagavulin 8yo will be introduced to the distillery's core range in 2018. Whether this is good news or bad news for the future of Lagavulin 16yo remains to be seen...
@Soba45: Exactly. I really enjoy the community, discussions and recommendations here, but in terms of functionality (adding new bottles, optimize the activity feed, overall performance etc.), Distiller is lacking behind. This is meant to be CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, because if I wouldn't care, I would simply have moved on to other pages...!
Yeah things have definitely slipped. They spend time doing pointless redesign instead of actually adding new features or any bottles you ask them for. Other sites are light years ahead functionality wise but I enjoy the crowd on here, and the general discussions and recommendations from people I know have good taste in whisky so I stay... :-)
It is a great dram at no mistake. As far as the app goes, it has its problems, but it's also free with no advertisements.
I am wondering if I am the only one who is slightly disappointed and increasingly frustrated with the overall performance of Distiller... The activity feed is so clustered with all these 'Likes' that following other peoples reviews is almost impossible (unless you delete all the people you are following). Furthermore, it takes significantly longer to load member pages since the October update (at least for me) and every third click, loading fails completely... I sincerely hope these problems can be addressed soon because this somehow diminishes the fun of using this great site! Edit: Would have posted that in the forum if we had one.
Edit: This review is for the 'Spring 2016 batch' of Lagavulin 8yo, which by many reviewers is regarded as 'the better' of the two batches. I have not tried the Autumn batch, so I can't comment on that. I share the common belief that this Single Malt - despite contrary information on the packing! - is NATURAL color. It has become a bad habit of Diageo to add this little sentence 'with E150a' to every bottle, no matter if it actually contains caramel colorant or not...
