Nose: Buttery malt, light honey, apple, pear, a hint of vanilla.
Palate: The arrival is soft, sweet and slightly fruity. Malt emerges in the development with cereal notes and deeper toned fruit. The texture is light but creamy and very pleasant.
Finish: Short. Crisp, sweet and fruity.
A show of hands from everyone for whom this was their first whisky - yep, there's a lot of us.
It's a good everyday dram, enjoyable neat or with a dash of water, or over rocks, or with soda, or as a mixer, or ... however you want to use it. An affordable and always dependable middle-ground whisky. Very reasonably often suggested as a first malt for beginners, it's amazing that Glenfiddich can produce millions of bottles of this year after year and maintain such high quality. It will always find a place in my drinks cabinet.

This helped get me through college and the marginally-employed years that followed until grad school. Will always be near and dear.
@cascode I found this one to be dramatically more flavorful on the rocks. Not sure how they do it. Yeah, I remember when this was my third single malt and it was “too much” for my palate to handle. Kinda like my 10 year old trying to lift my 25# weight.
@DrRHCMadden The space for the bottle is always there, but seldom occupied nowadays 🙂
@LouisianaLonghorn I’m literally writing these words now….
@DrRHCMadden I believe Glenfiddich is owned by William, Grant and Sons, who also make Monkey Shoulder, which (at least it used to…) includes Glenfiddich as a component of the blend. So in a way, you’ll still have Glenfiddich on your shelf 😉.
Hands up for me. I am thinking of dropping it from my permanent shelf. I just don't think I understand the point of it. I think because I'm a fan of Monkeys Shoulder in the middle ground of whisky for an everyday versatile bottle, I don't have the space for what is the same bottle but a little less interesting with GF12... I am of course open to being reeducated as to why i am wrong! ha!
