Deep dark bourbon and the nose is also dark and deep. You get vanilla and oak of course but also orange glaze and cherries with spice and bread…this is Christmas cake with Marzipan coming to your from another room. Medium bodied sweet vanilla delivery quickly moving to tart oily tannin and spice but in a very measured and low-key way. This is doubled oaked and it doesn’t hit you over the head with wood all at once but the tannin builds and builds in a very determined way - this has a long after taste of spice and wood that is impressive. Hints of creme brûlée burnt sugar, dark chocolate and orange peel. There is also a small amount of fruit – tart cherries in the ending. There is layered charcoal in the background moving forward after you swallow. Still this is to my way of thinking a reserved and understated bourbon. It’s one for late night sipping with friends or listening to Sinatra’s The Wee Small Hours of course by yourself. 4 stars or 90.
