Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Day 24. The finale of the calendar. On one hand, I'm a bit disappointed that they put a "simple bourbon" in the 24th spot. On the other hand, it fits so damn well. Maker's Mark - Birth of Christ...just saying. On the nose you get some vanilla, sweet corn and interestlingly, some apples. I don't get apples very often in bourbon, at least not that intense. Taste has the usualy corn and vanilla notes, some oak spices, cinnamon, and - my personal favorite - apples glazed in brown sugar. All while not being too sweet alltogether. Very interesting Bourbon, I can see why people like this. It ends with some hints of spicy vanilla and leaves you happy. On that note, Merry Christmas to all you awesome people on this website. Learned a lot from you and I'm looking forward to many more enjoyable reviews. Cheers.

To echo @Generously_Paul - I think you’ll find a much sweeter, orchard fruit-forward bourbon with almost every “wheater”. I think that’s why they are my favorite style of American whiskey. I’m not a big fan of hot, peppery rye spices or fresh oak harshness. That’s why it’s easier for me to dismiss bourbon and gravitate towards scotch. Those flavors are almost always secondary or not even present. But, to each his own. Great review. Merry Christmas. I look forward to reading more reviews from you in 2018. Cheers.
Seems like I need to check out more wheat whisky. I know a local distillery that has a pure grain series. 100% barley, oats, wheat and corn if I remember correctly. think I need to try that then.
The fruity notes in Makers are due to the fact that it’s a wheat bourbon. When wheat is used as the secondary grain instead of rye you get those nice fruits. Merry Christmas
