My good friend Paul wrote to me before I sat down with this glass. He gave me some song ideas for the "theme of the dram" concept I like to do, and the first option is a great fit for this 17 year. "Amber" by 311, and it's going to be in my head all night now (lol). Good color, and a great nose. Maritime sea salt, fruit extravaganza, dark tea, and sweet roses. The palate brought a surprising creamy vanilla, fruit collage, nice amount of smoke, and honey. The finish is long, not overly dry, with sea spray, and orange rind/cherries. 4.25 and a real treat. Another reviewer stated it reminded him of the Balblair, and I agree that it's a dead ringer for the 1999 minus the salty floral notes. Thanks for the sample Everwind.

@cascode, @PBMichiganWolverine, thanks for the advice malt mates.
@cascode. Haha, it'd definately be a case off cold hard $NZD up front before I'd allow it to be prised out of my hands :-)
...and that was from back when the Chili Peppers were amazing. 80’s punk was incredible.
Worst part about that song is that it’s samples from a RHCP song. Pretty Little Ditty.
@The_Rev Oh, did you have mention that song - it took years to forget it and now I can't stop hearing it - aaaagh!
@Soba45 My name is Ongame Ngogo - I'm a Nigerian lawyer working on behalf of an eccentric billionaire who wants to give away all his money. Just put your bottle of Old Pulteney 21 in the mail to me today and a cheque for $1,000,000 will be sent to you on receipt!
I polished off my bottle of the 17 a while ago...the 21 however is still sitting unopened at the back of the cupboard.Just need a special event to crack it open :-)
@deuce26 As Wolverine said, if you can find them and don't mind paying a premium price (which they will be now) the 17 and 21 are worth getting, even as (I hate myself for even saying it) investments. My wife bought me a 17 for Christmas, bless her. People will pay stupid prices to get hold of the 21 especially in a few years' time. As for the 12 year old, it's one of my "daily drams", but it does have a signature salty note, particularly in the finish (all OPs do - with age or cask finishing it becomes balanced by honeyed sweetness). You either acquire the taste ... or not. If possible try a dram before buying, but I'd say go for it.
@Generously_Paul - the only time ‘legitimate hits & 311’ belong in the same sentence is when you say: ‘The guys from 311 took some legitimate hits when they got into a fist fight with Scott Stapp of Creed back in 2005.’ 😂🤣😂🤣 😮
@Deuce. 12 is decent, but get the 21 or 17 while you can. They've stopped making the 21, and the last of it is in the supply chain. This year they'll stop making the 17
I'm not sure I realized that Crazy Town recorded literally anything other than "Butterfly," which was permanently ingrained in my memory by hearing on the radio about fifteen times a day for all of my junior year of high school. I'm amazed I survived.
Great review. @LeeEvolved agreed 311 . . . Turd Burger. What do you guys think of the 12 year old, I’ve been thinking of picking it up?
I respectfully disagree @LeeEvolved. 311 has some legitimate hits. Couldn’t agree with you more about Crazy Town though. Music is art and not every band works for everyone. Kinda like Laphroaig, not for everyone but you know lots of people love it.
Lee’s too funny. But you have to admit, 311 has a hell of a lot more talent than Crazy Town. :D
@Telex - there is never a proper time nor occasion to listen to 311. Ever. Or the band Crazy Town.
Your welcome for the ear worm. Bought a bottle of the 17 and the 21 because of the praise the both get on a regular basis. Great review
