Hmm this is an interesting one. I was expecting the heavens to open and angels start singing with all the reviews I've seen so far but neither did. To be fair I had the '77 Benriach Portwood, Arbelour and Talisker 18, Martell Xo then this so maybe the higher level benchmark didn't help but I struggled to be dazzled. Water definately bought it to life a bit, biscuity velvety honey came through but nothing more spectacular than the 16yr Glen Moray I had earlier in the week. The reviews all refer to it as a sherry monster but I get none of that..maybe MoM mixed up the samples? :-). I note for the 10 year there seemed quite a bit of variation in reviews so maybe its that? 3.5 for now.

Cheers. Ah interesting so it appears batch variation could be the key. I do find I struggle with cask strength ones a bit as I find the alcohol overpowers the flavour usually and I'm useless at judging what amount of water would make it open up if at all. There are exceptions though - Aberlour A'Bunadh batch 55; George T Stagg (69%!), Noahs Mill and other bourbans. Bourbans flavour profile seems to support higher strength well. Heavy first fill oak i guess, sucks more of the roughness out and adds more goodness :-)
@Soba45 - my initial impression is very similar. I loved the bottle of Tamdhu 10 I bought (complex sherry bomb), but this bottle isn’t the “10yo dialed up to 11” I was hoping for. I want to give it a little more time to oxidize, to see if something magical happens, before my review. Fingers are crossed but hopes aren’t too high. Nice review, cheers.
Found it to be beneath the Glen Moray 16? Wow. Talk about different experiences. :) Yeah I think those other benchmarks are super as well.
