Our monthly date night, which actually is just an excuse to have dinner outside without breaking up a fight between a 9 yr old and a 5 yr old ( funny thing is that the 5 yr old kicks the 9 yr old’s ass despite her having a black belt ). Of course, I noticed this at the bar, and immediately had to try it. So different than their last one I tried, the No Name. This is almost diametrically opposite. It’s fruity, waxy (Clyneish?), vanilla-infused. Definitely well aged components. Have they released the components? CB is usually pretty good about that. I’m guessing a well aged Clyneish as the backbone, maybe followed by a bourbon cask Speysider (Tamdhu?), which explains the vanilla. If I had to buy only one, it would be the No Name over this...but nonetheless, this is very, very well made.

Done!
@Soba45 add The General to that list; it’s supposed to be legendary
Sadly a lot of Cb stuff is very hard to get here. My list of CB's I want to try is now this long..This is not a luxury whiskey / Lost Blend / No name / 3 year old / Phenomenon / Great King Street / Double single / Flaming heart / Circus.....and growing with every great review!
I reviewed this prior to CBW’s release of the recipe and also guessed Clynelish because of the waxiness. I did get a few things right. Average age of whiskies is very close to 20yo and the Talisker piece is refill sherry. A great whisky! One bottle already polished off and one in hiding. :)
Off topic slightly, I chuckled when you say you did the bar scan. That’s the first thing I usually do whenever I enter a bar/restaurant: the scan to see what I haven’t had.
The asking price for this one has climbing since it’s release, I believe. I see it going for $170-200 now and I don’t know if it’s worth that price.
Is it worth the price? Not sure...probably not. But then again, majority of the whiskies aren’t either
Oh man. This Glenlossie is a cask strength. I hope it’s not too waxy. :/
Nice review, Pranay. I’m about 2/3 if the way through my bottle of Phenomenology. I agree that it’s no No Name, but it’s still pretty darn good. CBW says it’s 72% Glenlossie, 24% Tamdhu (good catch by you) and 4% mix of HP/Talisker/Caol Ila. I guess when we get around to our Glenlossie sample we should expect a waxy experience (that’s the main characteristic I get from Phenom). Cheers.
