One more as part of our distillery trading team, provided by @Scott_E . I think I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree with my internet celebrity friend @Telex. I found this hot and young, not ready for prime time. Maybe needed just a tad bit more in the barrel. Also felt as if it’s pulling it’s punch; sort of like peat for beginners. I guess if I’m gonna have a peated young whiskey, I’m going for a young Islay, not a young Speysider.

@Scott_E I think it’s both...us and the whisky changing. Our palettes have become used to complex peaty drams, while I’m sure the newer batches aren’t the same quality as the older ones from years ago
I too like their 10 year expression and now curious, based on your reaction to it, the other opinions. I too find that things I loved in the past, after revisiting, could not recall the same joy. Is it ourselves that change or the whisky that is changing (most times not for the good)?
I quite enjoyed it but other than it and the 10 & 15 nothing else wowed me from the range :-)
@LeeEvolved yeah I remember having this ages ago when it came out. I loved the Benomach 10, so bought this as well. I really liked it then, but that was also a time when I spat out a Caol Ila because it was too peaty. I think since then, my tastebuds have evolved ( or devolved...matter of perspective).
This is one I’m kinda excited to revisit. This was one of the first few peated whiskies I had when I first got into the “sport”. I liked it then, but I wanna see how it holds up now that I’ve tried quite a few better ones.
