I got to try this unusual and a bit obscure malt, thanks to @LeeEvolved, as part of his official contribution In our sampling team to go through every active distillery in Scotland. Very typical Speysider: honey, cereals, bread baking in the oven aroma. Same aroma simply extends to the palette. There’s nothing spectacular or challenging to this, and it doesn’t need to be. What it does, it does quite well...which is put together a good single malt at a mature age and affordable price tag. I definitely wouldn’t seek this out or buy it for my own, since I feel what I got from it is what I’d get from a Glenfiddich 12 or Balvenie 12. But, if I want to give a nice gift and make an impression of something mature and well aged, yet appealing to the masses, this would be a good option. Thanks Lee for providing something I normally wouldn’t get a chance to try

Wow there are nearly 40 of the super pours. A lot of great stuff with a smattering regulars. If it was half drams and I avoided the cheaper stuff plus what I'd already tried I reckon I'd nail the rest if you gave me several hours :-)
Yeah continuous eating is the trick. We've had seven hour solid/continuous drinking sessions and with food it's doable...without it gets messy fast. Oh and never never drink beer, wine before or during..you end up drinking the whiskey as quick as the beer/wine. That caught out a number at our tasting sessions nearly every time. :-)
I told Paul I thought Richard Paterson might be at Whiskyfest since this year’s Nth festival is 10 days earlier- I figured if he was in the US he’d probably make an appearance. Heck, I’m not even sure Dalmore is even going to be at Whiskyfest. Boooo.... I’d have to take vacation time for the Nth festival, but man that sounds amazing. Those super pours are off the chart!
@LeeEvolved I’d be game. The non-VP would be doable. The way I look at is a weekend in Vegas would cost $500 anyway, without air and hotel.
I told @Generously_Paul that next year I wanna hit up The Nth Festival in Vegas. This year’s show looks amazing: there’s 30+ “Super Pours” from some serious bottles, Richard Paterson is speaking and with VIP you get a guaranteed meet and greet with lots of industry heavy hitters. He laughed when I told him the price, though. VIP is $3k. A regular ticket is $500 and gets you 2 super pours. VIP gets them ALL! It’s also over the course of a weekend and not just 1 night. I’m gonna seriously check it out when the 2019 festival gets announced. Lol
@LeeEvolved if it’s not during kids spring break next year, i’ll join you guys.
I haven’t been to one before. I told Paul to expect 1/4 or1/2oz pours, but yeah if it doesn’t taste very good I’m gonna spit it out. There should be plenty of water and some food, but I’m going in with a full belly, at least. I can hold my own, but I’m thinking by the fourth hour it might get rough lol. Luckily we only have to make it to the elevator.
@LeeEvolved you guys ever been to one before? I’ve not, but there should be some strategy involved...like just tasting and spitting out ( else you’d be drunk), not starting off with an Ardbeg or Laphroaig, hydration with water and having food, etc?
@Generously_Paul and I have been eyeing the bottle list daily looking at what’s been announced. It’s gonna be a challenge walking upright by the end.
@LeeEvolved I’m envious of the Whiskeyfest. That’ll be a blast.
I’m trying to speed up, it just isn’t working. I’ve got tons of extras from @Telex and @Generously_Paul piling up too. I’ve got bottles I want to open and Whiskyfest coming up in 6 weeks. I guess I should double up on the milk thistle, lol.
@LeeEvolved I know, right. I think this is the first round I’m solidly disappointed in, so I just want to finish it, and enjoy the bonus ones ( Macallan, Kilchoman, and i’ll Try the Four Roses 2016 and Springbank again).
I really liked this one, myself. It ticks all the Speysider buttons and is pretty smooth. I’ve enjoyed every bottle I’ve tried from The Exclusive Malts IB, too. It looks like they are pretty good at choosing great casks. You are rolling through this round like a madman, @PBMichiganWolverine. Rock on.
