Dramfest `18. This was my 3rd favourite after the Portwood and Carribean. To borrow sentance from Joe_ C "vivacity was simply lacking". My notes still say a 4 so maybe I was in a charitable mood having come off a high of the Carribean 14 or just the fact it was my 60th or so whiskey of the week...either way 4 it shall remain but I wouldn't buy a bottle. I have another sample at home to try out so will be interesting to see if my opinion changes.

Yeah they are very 'Macallanish' :-). Pity as I loved the 21 portwood but couldn't justify dropping nearly $250 USD on a bottle.
I thought the Double Wood 17 was a quality dram- the biggest complaint I found was that this bottle was almost $80 more than its 12yo counterpart. That’s where this one fails- miserably. It’s not worth the asking price at all. I would pass on both of the Double Wood variations entirely- the intrinsic “Balvenie quality” is lacking in the 12, and the 17 is hugely overpriced. I’d pay $75-80 for the 17, but not a dollar more. Great review. Cheers.
