Pours from the fancy bottle a nice reddish gold color. Fragrant nose. Almost perfume-ish (maybe subliminal due to the shape of the bottle?). Grainy with dried fruit and heavy sherry notes. Neat it starts sweet and grainy. Then the sherry takes over. I think this is where the problem lies. I suspect that the sherry previously housed in these barrels may not have been of the highest quality. Finishes slightly hot for an 80 proof and leaves a lingering jumble of flavors on the palate. Metallic, fruity, perfumey (again, maybe subliminal from the shape of the bottle?), bitter. This is a muddled mess. I do feel that there are some potentially good notes here, they are just overwhelmed by cheap sherry. This will not be a repeat buy for me.

I agree. It’s confused. My first impression was that it was an Irish Whisky trying to be a Scotch.
Good to know. I don't understand the association between a sherried product and a quality one that tends to be made (Black Bush, Uigeadail, this), but maybe it's the other way around and quality products are often sherried. In any case, drier, nuttier sherry is one of the few drinks that I flat-out don't like, and is only tolerated as a tool to convert whiskies into Autumn mode. I really want to like this and will try it someday mainly because the master blender is a woman, but there have been a lot more cases of that lately *opens a bottle of Hendrick's*.
