Glen Grant 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland

This is the whisky Jim Murray rated 2nd and 3rd best in 2 consecutive years. So does it live up to the hype? No it's not bad but its definately not great. Flat, insipid honey, vanilla with a bitter oakiness which cuts through it and lingers on the aftertaste. JWB12 beats this hands down at a 1/4 the price. 3.25 for this one.

I thought the distiller camp edition would have cured you of that :-). Yeah so do I occasionally but then I thought the casual punter looking for a review of Jim Murray's famous Glen Grant 18 would have thought WTF when they read that review!
Aww darn, I love a good rant! Lol. I don’t believe I’ve had anything from Glen Grant at this point. I’ve been diagnosed as suffering from 5-Star Dram Deficiency. It’s a serious condition where 4 out of 5 whisky drinkers often go undiagnosed. My “doc” wrote me a prescription for 4 hours at Whiskyfest DC in an effort to ease my pain.
Update: I cut the review down to be shorter and less ranty:-)
I’ve not tasted this one but the 10 was pretty fair last time I had a bottle, particularly considering the reasonable price.
Yeah I'm in the same position. No more bottles for a few months. I have only bought 2 this year but still have around 20 to open and 90 MoM samples so I want to run those down a bit. :-)
If nothing else, the 10 is a good representation of the classic Glen Grant profile - light, fruity, and floral.
Unfortunately the die is cast. I already have the 10 and it is slated to be used as a tour bottle. After reviewing my credit card balance I have determined its time to put a halt on any new bottles (with the exception of duty free visits), so seeking the 12 is out of the question.
@Generously_Paul I didn’t love the 10 Year...but the 12 Year is a notable improvement over it. If you can manage to find it, the Five Decades is really lovely.
Ah it wasn't that bad just not mind blowing great which it should be. I really should have given it a 3 to be fair :-). Yeah other ones he rates as great often are but its just his best in the world concept which is rubbish and as you can see really gets my goat!
Not to mention it artificially raises prices for some of them. Case and point: his other two best—Yamazaki 18 and Sullivan’s Cove French cask are now silly prices or unattainable
I certainly hope this is not going to be an indication of the quality I can expect from the 10 year old I’ll be opening in a few weeks
