Knob Creek Small Batch Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA

I bought a sample of this last night, and the mistake I made was having this soon after an amazing sample provided by Lee of a High West MIdwinter act 4.4 (thank you Lee!). I'm sure this is great in its own right, but having it soon after the HW MIdwinter wouldn't be a fair critique. ( won't score it). It just seemed nuanced and shy in all areas from nose to finish, despite the high ABV. You definately get the traditional rye nose and palette of spices, eucalyptus and tabacco, just really weak with a sharp bitter finish. At some point I'll try it again, but without having a stellar rye before it

Thanks for the info, Pranay. I will make a note to look for it this fall.
@Erogers: I think it's seasonal----High West puts out a new batch every November or so. You gotta keep an eye out for it, it's well worth it's $90 price tag.
@Lee: Oh I'm so looking forward to the other ones----this coming Friday and Sat or Sun night. I think I'll have one on Fri, and the other two on Sunday.
Nice review, Pranay. It really wasn't fair to drink this after that High West, though. I'm looking forward to your reviews of the other stuff I sent you. Just wait until you crack that Highland Park.... Cheers
I like Knob Creek Rye. That said, given your review, I'm thinking I really must figure out how to score a bottle of the High West Midwinter Night's Dram. I don't think anybody in the Tampa area has it. I'm a rye fan, so I'm always enthusiastic about finding a stellar one. Reminds me: time to seek out a Whistle Pig offering again so I can make notes...
