Damn that was a lot of oak. I agree - a complex bourbon for quite the bargain. A bit spicier, brinier and saltier than expected (or I like) and not quite as sweet. This has a bite to it and strong cask flavor that I love.
Later review reminds me what an excellent deal this is. Character, depth of flavor profile for a bargain. Reminds me of summer in my Grandpa's wood shop at the old pond house. And the sawdust on the nose is like hauling home a stack of 2x4s.
[12.17.2017] A follow-up note on this bottle. Still just a bit saltier than I prefer but such a versatile whiskey that I like to keep a couple bottles around. When someone tells you it's too strong, remind them that getting "86'd" was getting cut off to the weak crap. They'd never cut it back in Western days.
