Oh this is good. If there are two quintessentially American drinks, it’s rye and bourbon. I know my Canadian brethren will point towards Canada for rye...and it’s good, but it’s not as spicy as the American cousin. This one here, courtesy of @The_Rev , is a pure classic. Eucalyptus, mint, fennel. Lingering minty finish, with more fennel. I’d like to say it’s about $70, and worth it. Thanks @The_Rev !

@PBMichiganWolverine - I previously rated this rye .1 of a point lower than the Whistlepig Estate Oak 15yo (4.5 vs 4.4). I was in error. The Col. Rye is gone and I still have half a bottle of the WP. For a third of the price, it’s a clear winner.
Haha..no we usually get grizzled whiskey veterans who have been drinking whiskey since they've been in nappies. They usually have great tales though to make up for the lack of visual appeal :-)
@Soba45 there was a whiskey tasting here in New Jersey that @Richard-ModernDrinking and I went to...was almost cute watching the paid models reading off a sheet of paper on what they should be telling folks stopping by...” this here is double matured, means two types casks, with taste of honey and heather, etc”
sadly not the type of whisky tasting I've ever been to :-). The person who is running this session is going to hook me up just prior to the session with the samples. Going to be a great Friday night!
@Soba45 do it at a table where it’s those hired beautiful models pouring the drink. They’d care less.
Yes I think that will be my backup plan :-) I saw a guy do it at one of the tastings a while back. These days with all the sampling I do it's rare I get tempted out to a formal tasting event.
@Soba45 just go there with a little vial, pour it in there, right in front of them. And voila—-a takeaway. All’s good then mate.
There is a tasting here I'm thinking of going to it has this and W.L. Weller 12 years old ,E.H. Taylor Small Batch, E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Bourbon, Old Rip Van Winkle 10 years old, Pappy Van Van Winkle 15 years old, George T Stagg. Unfortunately on a Tuesday night b4 I fly out for work so I'd be quite ruinous. I've asked if I can do takeaway instead :-)
Glad you enjoyed it; it’s one of my favorites!
