Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA

On the nose, sweet corn and banana candy, with a chalky undertone. It smells almost like an antacid. The entry is thin, with a saccharine caramel and charred banana marshmallow character. If that last part sounds a little ridiculous, then you have somehow never tried Jack Daniel's. Circus peanuts come to mind, if you know what those are, and count yourself lucky if you don't. A random fruit that isn't banana shows up in the finish, adding some tartness. The whole thing is about as complex as Larry the Cable Guy, and a lot less endearing.

Definitely marketing is what makes Jack king. Just look at all the whiskies that have put out product labeled eerily similar to Jack. Evan Williams, Benchmark No.8, Virgin Bourbon, Dickel 8 and 12, etc.
@PBMichiganWolverine, I think bottles come into play in often uninformed situations like drinking at a hotel bar, and Haig Club happens to look like expensive perfume...
@Scott_E, I blame "Jack and Crack Witch Week" >:p
@Scott_E. Blends still do really well compared to single malts, overall in terms of revenue. I was at the Heathrow Marriott bar, and asked the guy what’s the most popular whiskey on his shelf...he pointed towards a big blue square bottle of Haig Club, and said “that one, over soda”.
@PBMichiganWolverine Right. They have such powerful marketing and it is working well.
@Scott_E who knows. Marketing to the right segment ( frats)?
@PBMichiganWolverine But why JD over Evan Williams Black or the like? You can can EW for 1/2 the cost.
@Scott_E Affordable, higher than beer ABV, mixes well with anything, and easily attainable...no need to go on Pappy-seque searches across the nation
@WhiskyWitch A nice, direct, succinct review. I don’t know how JD has such a mass following. My buddy bleeds Jack and Coke. As a sipper, its average at best. It’s on the higher cost range for an average whiskey. They reign supreme. A head scratcher for me.
