Good things in life should be celebrated. Birthday's, weddings, project go lives...and there are the are the sadder things...departures of work colleagues you like. It was a project go live and a departure which prompted this drink after a pint of beer. This was like the beer in that it was almost a session whisky...pleasant but not distinctive. Usual dalmore mild polished caramel profile. 3.5 and could swing between a 3 or a 4 on vfm but I wouldn't be hanging out to drink again so 3 it is.

@Slainte-Mhath Maybe but as you say not worth buying another bottle to find out. Much better out there!
I wonder if there is batch variation. A recent review on WF was much better (84) than older batches (81). My bottle is from 2016 or older. Will probably not find out, as I will not buy this whisky again...
@PBMichiganWolverine South Island was my old stomping ground (originally from Christchurch) until I finished university then headed overseas and then Wellington became my home when I came back. Luckily I thus avoided the Christchurch earthquakes that wiped out the city centre, although no doubt Wellingtons turn will come one day!
@Generously_Paul Ah interesting small world. I'd love to do something like that...sumner here summer somewhere else back to back. :-). My nz cousin and her US husband do the opposite as they are ski instructors and do mountain rescue. Often do winter down south of NZ and then Aspen.
@Generously_Paul Wellington and Michigan, huh? They must both have a permanent lean forward from walking into wind :-)
@Soba45. Right out of grad school, I took a 2 week vacation in the South Island —-amazing place, especially Milford sound
@Soba45 my sister in law and her fiancé live in Wellington for about 9 months out of the year and then back here to Michigan for the rest of the year. He’s a native Kiwi. From the pictures I’ve seen it’s a beautiful place to live
@Slainte-Mhath Ah time flies fast, didn't seem that long ago you were talking about it! Yeah Aucklands not the best representation of NZ just a typical large non descript city. Wellington is where its at (although I'm definitely biased..haha).
@Soba45 I am back from my brief visit to NZ (and my more extended stay on the Cooks): I didn't really like Auckland as a city, but Waitakere was amazing. Also visited Sam Snead's Whiskey House (good man!) and The Jefferson bar. The latter is utterly forgetful, but the shop is really decent. The duty free in Auckland is rather nice. Saw a Hakushu 12 when I arrived, but it was sold out when I left and wanted to pick up a bottle...
