An anytime sipper or mixer, much like an Irish Jack Daniels (black) and so went through a couple of 750s before I got smart and got the 1.75L last Christmas. I do prefer it neat, where the natural sweetness lies, as opposed to over ice...but it's fine in a mixed drink, where the ice/water bitterness that emerges, at least on my tongue, can be covered. YMMV. 2.5 stars

Good review, mate - I think we have similar palates!
@LeeEvolved I can definitely see your point about it being a gimmick. I usually only find myself drinking Jameson when I’m out at a bar, which isn’t often. I guess, for me, it just made the regular Jameson a little less boring.
I’m more on the fence regarding the caskmates editions. The Guinness one adds some roastiness to the finish, but not much after that. I was fortunate enough to try a NYC pale ale cask batch and didn’t get much on top of the regular Jameson. It seems more like a gimmick than an actual experimental batch.
I'll have to give them a go. Been thinking about the 18 year but sooner or later I have to stop collecting. :-) So much to learn and sample.
I’m really liking the caskmates series they are putting out. Especially the IPA.
