It's an interesting drop this one. Its got a few great components but there is an underlying bitterness you get often with older whiskies. I remember the talisker 25 having a similar issue. Some note a wet, musty nose which I picked up as well. I thought it maybe brine or salt and maybe its that as well but by the end of the dram it builds and becomes almost grapefruit rind like. The other components get overpowered and so 2.25 I give this one...my least favorite Juras yet.

@Slainte-Mhath He's definitely a character that's for sure. I've watched parts of his videos before. Generally I don't have the patience to sit through videos so I only watch them if I can't find a written review. I just want a 20-40 sec what's the guts of it rather than a 20 min monologue :-). You do however get a lot of generally interesting whiskey info from some video reviews if you are patient though. Watching that video he says the sour taste which sounds similar to what I got is olorosso casks which 'sat for to long' whatever that means. With or without whiskey in? I'll have to Google up!
@PBMichiganWolverine I'd rather listen to Ralfy than reading Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, that's for sure ;-)
@ScotchingHard okay..that bruising the teeth part would have a direct correlation to his recommendations. For better or worse...probably worse.
@PBMichiganWolverine haha. Yeah. He is a caricature. In one video, he says he doesn’t brush his teeth, and you shouldn’t either, because of the secret adverse health effects of fluoride.
@Slainte-Mhath isn’t Ralphy the one that sits in that dimly lit old pub looking room? Doesn’t he seem way to “preachy”...as in giving advice beyond just whiskey?
Check out Ralfy's review on this whisky, it's really entertaining... And yes, it's a poor malt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huG4-GV5_aI
