1oz pour.
On the nose, even better than the 25 year old Talisker. One of the best noses of any whisky I’ve had. Infinite layers of succulent sweetness and savory brine. Really transcends notes.
On the palate, I definitely liked the 25 better. This felt softened to oblivion. Subtle complexity is sexy, but there is a point where you can be so subtle that you fail to get any notice.
I much preferred to keep this dram around on the side to smell it. Not worth it in the mouth.

@AntonioSchmid best save: few months ago, my wife donated old clothes to a homeless shelter. They called a few days later, said they found a 1970 Old Pulteney buried with the clothes.
@PBMichiganWolverine Ok, you won the award for the most sad story hands down! ;-)
@PBMichiganWolverine - and that is why, like I told you before, I just want an hour to rummage through your home before you hand the keys to its new owner. For this I’m willing to pay several hundred dollars, because I know I will find a gem you left behind, lol.
@AntonioSchmid no, no. No...that’s not sad. Sad is when you have bought the 1985, then move houses, only to find out much later that you forgot to move that with you. True story.
@PBMichiganWolverine £400 was the 1985 27 years old. About the 30 I have a very sad story... They had an old vintage one selling for the same price as the regular 30 (£350) and I wasn't so sure about buying it because had already spent a fortune in Islay. No cell phone signal at the distillery so couldn't check the price on line... Later that day I checked the price when arrived at the hotel and WTF! It was going for more than £500 on line so hurried back to the distillery the next day to buy it only to find out it was already gone... Really sad story! :(
@AntonioSchmid and I think there’s two types of the 30yr old—-a vintage one, and non-vintage. Pretty big price difference between the two
@PBMichiganWolverine Saw this one selling for £400,00 at the distillery but didn't have the courage to pull the trigger... :(
"I much preferred to keep this dram around on the side to smell it. Not worth it in the mouth. " No! No! No! Don't say it... Don't know if there is some batch variations but for me this is the ultimate nectar of gods!! For me it stays even above the award winning HP 25 and the almighty Yamazaki 18. (Have spoken the ultimate Talisker fanboy...) ;-)
@ScotchingHard. I think $600...scary expensive. Can’t be worth that much...but then again, when in single malt territory, is anything?
@PBMichiganWolverine Yes. I’ve heard amazing things about that too. I’m going to need to get a bottle for myself.
@ScotchingHard. I’ve read a few reviews that have claimed the 1985 27 yr old as hands down best Talisker ( pre-40yr old reviews )
