Rosebank 21 Year (2014 Special Release)
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed
October 2, 2018 (edited October 27, 2018)
Closed in 1993 and soon to be revived by Ian Macleod, Rosebank remains one of Scotland's most iconic distilleries. This 21-year-old Special Release was matured in refill American oak and bottled at 55.3% ABV (bottle no. 3579). Biscuity and cereal-driven, the aroma unfolds with citrus cream, pears and a lovely herbal complexity. On the palate, floral and slightly bitter notes intermingle with parsley, barley sugar and a touch of mojito. Minty freshness and lemon zest mark the clean and very elegant finish. A much-missed Lowlander with unrivaled character!

@PBMichiganWolverine Ah yeah true I forgot I have a sample of the 21 year which has ladyburn, Inverleven and Dumbarton in it. Thanks for reminding me! :-)
@Soba45 William Grant Ghosted series is affordable ( or it was, 1 yr ago). It’s a blend of ghosted distilleries. I have their “Fior” which I think I got for $125 just last year
@Slainte-Mhath and to think just one year ago, TWE had 21 yr old single cask Rosebank “Innocence” for just US$400...
Rosebank I mean. Port Ellen is their latest.
Good review :-). I think the closest I'll ever come to trying the really rare expensive ghost distilleries is via the Johnnie walker ghost series. Not sure if they are coming out with a Port Ellen though.
@PBMichiganWolverine I am afraid so too. Even the 12-year-old Flora & Fauna bottling is not available for under 300-400 € in these days...
@Slainte-Mhath great review like always. I think these old Rosebanks will be even more expensive after the new Rosebank is revived.
Additional comment: Diageo Special Release 2014, distilled in 1992, limited to 4530 bottles. Unfortunately, this bottle has become an 'investors item', which makes it very difficult for us drinkers to find (and afford) it in these days.
