Highland Queen 1561 30 Year
Blended — Scotland

'The folly of one man is the fortune of another', they say. At 45 €, this bottle of 30-year-old Highland Queen was an unbelievable bargain. With a malt content of over 75%, Tullibardine seems to be the main contributor. Oranges, tinned peaches, toffee and a light 'sherry overcoat' define the nose, with notes of banana and nutmeg hiding in the back. The age shows on the palate: fruity, spicy and aromatic flavors take turns, all very balanced and with a surprisingly long and satisfying finish. Forget about 'smooth' - this blend has depth and a real personality!

You lucked out—-so hard to get a deal nowadays. I was in Norway 2 years ago—-it’s insane how expensive the wine and whiskey is there. But that said...they did have really good beer that’s reasonable, and made in Lofoten Islands
I just realized that this blend was only 3 € more expensive than Dalmore 12 yo... I wished I had bought another bottle of THIS instead of a plastic stag.
Additional comment: Being a whisky drinker in Norway can be quite frustrating, given the alcohol monopoly, poor selection and insane price tags. It was so pleasing to rip off the monopoly, which ripped me off a thousand times over! I bought three bottles of Highland Queen 30 YO, and it was sold out immediately. Later, they admitted that 'they did a mistake' and that 'this blend was meant to be sold for about 100 €'. If this had been an ordinary shop, I would most likely feel bad about exploiting their mistake, but in this instance I cannot hide the smile on my face. Always keep your eyes open malt mates, there are potential bargains behind many corners!
