This is a bottle kill review—-so, I don’t rate these since I usually use my last ounce for experiments. I figured “what goes well with something rich and raisin-y sweet from port maturation?” What about something really smoky, like an Ardbeg or Lag? Well...I don’t have that readily on hand. Ok...so, what about something rich and vanilla? Like a bit of this with an equal amount of Wild Turkey Longbranch? An American-Taiwanese fusion. So, this is a case where the sums of both are less than the individual components. The richness of the Kavalan was diminished by the vanilla. The strong oak and vanilla was diminished by the port. Became one unholy mess. Tasted like NyQuil combined with bread pudding. I know...don’t ask, but I know.

@PBMichiganWolverine - well, technically I’m not trying to blend for a specific result-it’s just a little pour from everything I open or drink. The fact I tend to drink better quality stuff makes me think it could be rather tasty when it’s all said and done, but when you just blindly pour stuff together you never really know. If it ends up being good I may offer up a few pours to the guys, but if it sucks....
@LeeEvolved hopefully you’re a better blender than me. I think the trick is to use a lot of whiskies. Can’t go wrong once the number gets high enough. Really tough when it just 2-3...which makes you respect Compass Box that much more
I’m well into my new infinity bottle experiment. I’ve got about 10-11oz in the bottle and my recipe consists of 1/2oz of every peated bottle and 1oz of every non-peated I’ve opened or sampled. Once I get a full bottle equivalent or to a 3 month time limit I plan on sampling it and seeing how it plays out. Fingers crossed, but it does help me get through these bottles a little faster.
@Richard-ModernDrinking and so goes my dreams of becoming the next John Glaser...😊
Don’t give up the day job!
