Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed

What's the gimmick? John E. Fitzgerald was a bonded treasury agent and rickhouse worker who began a distillery in Kentucky that eventually was sold to Van Winkle during prohibition. Fitzgerald had a tendency to use the keys to the rickhouse and "steal" the best bourbons from the warehouses. This "stealing" has been honored if you will in the name of this bourbon and the legacy of Old Fitzgerald himself as a lawless agent that was able to access warehouses and select the best barrels.
What is it? John E. Fitzgerald Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Who made it? Heaven Hill Distilleries
Where is it distilled/bottled? Bardstown, KY
ABV/Proof? 46% Alcohol by Volume / 92 Proof
Age? No Age Statement bourbon, however it is a straight whiskey making it at least 2 years old.
Served: 2oz (60ml) Neat pour into a Glencairn Glass
NOSE: Toffee, Vanilla, Oak, Cereal Grains, Dried Fruit, Butterscotch
ESSENCE: Very young whiskey at the front, wheat sweetness comes through, apricot, dried plum, non-specific woody notes, pepper
ALCOHOL: Hot - This one has heat immediately at the front and continues in the throat in the finish. It is not a lingering heat however.
TEXTURE: Astringent - Dry white wine, alcohol punch for sure.
Overall: I really liked this one, I think with a little more age it would be better. The wheated mash bill presence come through, but altogether there is still a roughness. For the money this is a damn good offering and worthwhile to have on hand.
