Landy VSOP Cognac
Cognac — Cognac, France

Day 7. Friday. My first Cognac. Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure if this really is Landy VSOP. There might have been a screw up with the sample, because what I'm tasting here is straight up whisky. This is nowhere close to any cognac I ever tasted, this is more of a speyside scotch. So take everything with a grain of salt. Doesn't change how it tastes.
The nose is grapes, lemon, honey and spices. Specificially caraway (not sure if that is the right word, I translated it with google because I never used it in english...the German word is Kümmel). Interesting, and the grape note makes me thing that this is cognac, but then again....
Taste is alright but a bit one dimensional. Honey, vanilla, cereals and again, grapes. That is the dominant note, from nose to finish. So if this is the real thing in the bottle, this is a decent stand in for a scotch.
Not a very good scotch, but still. Enjoyable to drink, but I really feel like I missed that "cognac feeling" here.
Oh well...I have more cognac/brandy to sample....maybe there.

@Reverend357 Yes that is a good strategy as everyone has different tastes and better to be undiscriminating than too closed minded. None of us would have been drinking whiskey if that's the case. I used to hate whiskey when I was in Scotland but now look :-)
@Soba45 hell yeah it does. I'm glad I still have about 40 samples left, plus about as many unopened bottles. I'd say until I'm at about 300 tastes I will continue to taste whatever I can get my hands on. Good base knowledge and stuff
@Reverend357 Yeah I used to try just about anything but these days if it's not rated highly here I rarely bother as I've got to the stage I just spit it out and tip the rest down the sink if I don't enjoy it. To many great drams out there. :-). I've spent a lot of time working through the MoM sample list over the last couple of years...gets very expensive!
@PBMichiganWolverine true, just like with music, if it's good it's good no matter what it is. This stuff is not bad really...I'd put it in the same area as Glenfiddich 12. Serviceable, but not great. @The_Rev Did a DIY from MoM. None of the premade ones really caught my eye, so I picked 24 samples pretty much at random (sort from lowest to highest price and then click through the pages....I think I stopped somewhere about 120 pages in)
Yep, kümmel is caraway in English. Sounds like a weird dram. Which calendar are you doing this year?
A rose is a rose by any other name. Cognac, pisco, whiskey or raki...who cares as long as it taste good. ( that theory goes under if you need to buy another of the same) 😊
