First off, I need to add the qualifier than I’m a huge Talisker fan boy. It was one of the first whiskies I ever had, and to this day, a Talisker 10 remains one of my favorites. Aside from their recent silly priced 40 yr old, I’ve pretty much collected all the Taliskers—-everything from its 10 to the amazing 27 yr old Diageo special release to its highly acclaimed 2009 30yr old. This sample comes here courtesy from my buddy @LeeEvolved. Ironically, I sold him my Neist Point, but then also received a sample of this, which I’m grateful for since it was my only bottle of Neist Point. Typical briny salty Szechwan pepper nose that you get from any Talisker. But the taste is more subdued and refined than the 10, less than the 18. Salt water toffee and caramel. Layers of salted dark chocolate. I have no idea if this is available in the US, but if it’s priced less than the 18, you can’t go wrong with it. One of the better NAS, alongside Ardbegs two pillars of Corry and Uigi.

Nice to see Diageo finally release a non chill filtered Talisker.
@Slainte-Mhath - I drank through a bottle of the 2018 Talisker 8 CS a couple of months ago. It was perhaps the saltiest and driest Island whisky I’ve had to date. I ended up buying 3 bottles because they sold so quickly and I figured they’d make a solid investment, but I don’t really want to drink that one again. I’d say 3.25-3.5 stars would be an accurate score from me. The Neist Point, however, is an amazing dram. I’m so glad I found a couple more bottles of that- even at $100-120. It’s very well crafted IMO.
@PBMichiganWolverine 16-20 March
Gret review. I've never had a Talisker I didn't like.
@Slainte-Mhath @LeeEvolved has/had one. I remember him saying that it was incredibly salty and dry
@AntonioSchmid done—-will bring over a sample. Which dates will you be in Orlando? I’ve yet to book tickets... mine depends on some meetings I need to attend
@PBMichiganWolverine From the Diageo Sp. Releases 2018??? You LUCKY one!! Please tell me you’re going to save me a sample for Orlando in March... ;-)
@Slainte-Mhath not yet. I got 2 at USD $80. Will open one soon
Anyone who tried Talisker 8 yo at CS? I found it way too expensive at 120 €, but I am curious how it tastes...
@AntonioSchmid My favorites have been the 10 and 57 north so far from memory so looking forward to this one :-)
@Soba45 yeah, I’d say definitely not to the max like Lore. As Talisker gets older, it loses that roughness for elegance. This comes across as trading a lot of that 10 year’s roughness for a smoother silky feel, but not as much as the 18’s
@Soba45 It’s not the best but for sure the mos “elegant” I had so far... And I had them all! ;-) (except for 27 l.e. And 40) Amazing dram!
Definitely looking forward to opening this one. I was hoping its the Talisker version of Lore - Talisker to the max. Seems not based on your review but glad still a good one
