Springbank 12 Year Cask Strength
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland

I had to spend some time with this one. At first I found the ABV over powering the flavors. I had the Green 15 blowing this away. As the bottle oxidized and I experimented with some added water it really opened up beautifully. The expert review is pretty spot on. The amazing Springbank flavors . . . brine, lingering barrel spice, and a thick sweet molasses. It’s not the 15, but it’s very nice.

@cascode yes I was wondering about that. Certainly each batch is different. I really probably should have rated it closer to three, but when you get the right mix of water it stands out like the other expressions. Not sure if I would buy it again over the 15. Maybe next year to see how that batch is?
Yeah, this one loves water. It's also a pity that all the 12 yo CS Springbanks are lumped together here, because each batch has its own distinctive character - for me that's part of the joy.
