I felt as if I needed something more potent outside my regular weekday kombucha or green tea while watching last night’s SOTU ( State of the Union, for our non-US friends here). How I long for those good old days when real life politics wasn’t more of a circus than Netflix’s House of Cards. Well, just like in our theatrical politics, this dram isn’t all quite what it would have you believe. It’s stated as 14 yrs in sherry, which led me to believe it would be dark, nutty sweet, and heavy. Instead, it’s quite well balanced—-you get a more nuanced hazelnut and chocolate flavor, with a nice helping of dried red fruits. Nothing that smacks in your face, like an Aberlour Abunadh, but really nothing lightweight either ( think Dalwinnie). I think this was a one time deal in the TRE world; quite affordable too...maybe $50 or so...I forget at this point. I’m generally not a fan of the TRE items, but once in a while, there’s a bright spot.

@deuce26 totally agree. The only sub-$100 Macallan I liked was the Classic Cut from 2 years ago. Otherwise, it’s always just silly expensive for what you get.
@PBMichiganWolverine that makes it sound even more appealing. I can never find myself buying macallan. I’m sure some expressions are worth the money, but I’ve always been underwhelmed enough by the lower end of the lines to spend real money to find out.
@deuce26 I think of Tamdhu as the Macallan for affordable budgets. It’s makes quality stuff, without us having to take out a second mortgage to buy it
The state of the union is hungover
@Generously_Paul this is the same one my niece bought for me from Heathrow. The very same niece who, with her buddies, drank my entire GoT collection
Thanks for the review. I was wondering what Tamdhu was all about. Also, interestingly enough I’ve just discovered A’bunadh and Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition and I thought both were really good. Sounds like I would like this one.
Can’t wait to try it! Lots of love for Tamdhu in my house
@dubz480 although admittedly, I couldn’t make it past the Democratic response. My bullshit capability maxed out by then. There’s just so much a person can take before he/she calls it a night.
I am with you on the daily Komboucha! Best way to start my day! Good for you for getting thru the SOTU with something less than 140 proof! I just waited for the highlights! Great review as always!
