Decided to do a "Wheater" night last night. OWA, MM Cask Strength, and W12 (not sure how many more pours I can nurse out of my lone 3 year old bottle). This was my least favorite of the three. The notes of vanilla, cinnamon, tangerine, and hay on the nose transfer to the palate. To me though, the current version has gotten too young. The finish was too astringent, hot, and bitter without any oak to balance it. A splash did help by bringing some oak notes forward. Not a good sign now that their MSRP is going up to $50. The bottle I tasted last night was barely a $30 bottle.

I can get Classic Laddie for that lol
well that kinda sucks 50 is WAY too high
@BDanner thanks for the info on the new MSRP; that means my OWA days are over.
The special reserve is abundant here, but not that special IMO.
@Ctrexman last bottle I bought was around $30. They jumped the MSRP to $50 January of 2019. We don’t get the WSR in NC.
havent seen it in Texas but the Special reserve is around
I got my single barrel version last year for 26 in NH
@WhiskeyFunatic agreed
I hadn't seen a bottle of 107 in a while and was stoked to be offered one at a store while on a trip recently. She brought it out of the back and when I went to check out I asked the price. It was a HARD pass for me at $60. Soo many better things around that price!
@BDanner Nice. I typically stay in uptown (Omni or Ritz) I'll have to seek this place out.
@dubz480 I don’t know where you stay in CLT, but they own a bar right next to the distillery called The Broken Spoke in South Charlotte. Great atmosphere, decent whiskey selection, eclectic bar food, and they offer some special bottlings there. (Finished and cask strength RUA as well as a couple of their other brands).
@BDanner sweet. That's worth it for sure!
@dubz480... especially in the Charlotte area.
@dubz480 any ABC in NC would have it for $40.
@BDanner what does the Rua go for? They wanted $60 for a half bottle in my room but I assume that is wayyy over MSRP. Will be back I. CLT next month and want to pick one up assuming it's reasonable price wise.
@dubz480 About the only advantage of living in an ABC Control State is that there is no huge mark-ups. If you do luck into a rare bottle, it's always at MSRP.
@BDanner still better pricing then out West. They gauge at $90+. With you on the pricing $40 is about the most I would go on it.
My first test occurred yesterday. NC got their quarterly shipment of Weller Antique and my local ABC manager mentioned that they had it in the back but that it had went up to $50. I was not even tempted at that price.
I love the antique 107 and it’s a go-to daily drinker for me. I agree completely, it tastes younger lately and in Michigan the MLCC cost just went up by over $20, so retailers will have to adjust big time. Bummer. If I am spending $50+ on a bourbon it won’t be OWA
I was the 2000th taste on this one. Do I win anything?
Same here. It shows up quarterly and I always picked up a bottle at $30. It will be an easy pass at $50.
Nice review. I like it enough but agree sub $50 bottle for sure. I like it more than Maker's Cask but it's so hard to find in the Phoenix market I don't bother looking anymore!
