Single Malt — Islands, Scotland

Much better than I expected given the general negativity I hear about this distillery. Sweet but not cloying, decent amount of spice and caramel notes and a good length on the finish. Bodes well for the evening's Jura vertical.

@Richard-ModernDrinking did they have the 22 yr old One for the Road? I’ve read that’s pretty good
@1901 @LeeEvolved Of the new core range, I’d only drink the 10 again. The 18 was horribly sweet (review to follow). Let’s hope the new distiller they hired from Compass Box can sort them out.
@Richard-ModernDrinking @cascode a rep I talked to last year said that diversity was one of the reasons they overhauled their range. Customers were having an uneven experience. They now hope to have a signature style with each whiskey in the new range offering a variation on the same theme. I wonder will they succeed.
@Richard-ModernDrinking @cascode - sounds like the safest bet from Jura is NAS with young whiskies blended from lots of different sources. Age statements matured in one type of wood either doesn’t work well or the selection of/and quality of the casks used needs improvement. At least that’s MY experience and $0.02.
@cascode Lots of people at event tonight made same remark. I will write more soon, but have to say that a dozen or so Juras have left me none the wiser!
Every Jura expression I've had has been markedly diffreent - it's like there is no defined distillery character. Prophecy has been the only standout of their whole range for me.
Maybe they do well in the 10 & under, and 20+? Who knows...cant figure these guys out
