Hmm not getting a lot out of this one. I know it's only 40% but it feels very weak and watered down. Caramel spice, leather, oak, light toffee. It's...ok but nothing great.

Balvenie...more of a disappointment than Dalmore at a similar price
@LeeEvolved @cascode @PBMichiganWolverine So far I've been impressed with the lower abv stuff albeit older aged stuff e.g. Madeira 21, Portwood 21 but they are drams which were very heavy in flavour so maybe without that to carry it the lower abv ones just seem weak to me. No spicy meal (I always avoid that as kills my taste buds) and I left it open for an hour so I dunno why didn't click; tasting is an artform full of potential causes of variation from the dram itself to the person and setting :-)
@Soba45 @LeeEvolved. I think Balvenie is like Macallan in the sense that it does really well in the high range. Like Tun series, 25, and 30
@Soba45 Just a guess, but did you taste this after either a spicy meal or a fairly robust whisky? I've found that context is everything for this expression. If you're in the mood for gentle and "smooth" it's fine, but if not it just comes across as watery.
I’m starting to think Balvenie translates as “disappointing” in Gaelic. 🤣🤣
