My history with Buffalo Trace started the first time I bought a bottle of bourbon. I had read an article about stocking a home bar and Buffalo Trace was recommended. Once I was at the liquor store Eagle Rare and Elmer T Lee caught my eye so I bought all three bottles on a whim. All three are now some of my favorite bottles.
Appearance: Not the thickest, but not too thin either. Great honey caramel color.
Nose: leather up front with quite a bit of heat. Caramel, vanilla if you search for it. Cinnamon and fruit, perhaps cherry.
Taste: Caramel and vanilla. Green apple with heat. Apple pie in a glass.
Finish: caramel and vanilla fade away as leather and wood move in and quickly disappear. Heat lingers, warms body, not unpleasant.
Overall: I’m glad this was my first bottle years ago but it lacks the complexity I look for in bottles today. Next time I’ll let it breathe a bit longer.
