Every summer for years I’ve been trying to grow rare hard to find vegetables in my little garden. Kashmiri cucumbers. Chinese green radishes. French boule d’or melons. And every summer it’s a bust. Either the NJ seasons aren’t long enough, or the climate just isn’t what it (obviously) is in Kashmir, south of France, or southern China. Last year, I stuck finally to the reliable NJ tomatoes, eggplants, and squash. And voila....had a bounty of a harvest that tasted better than anything in grocery stores.
Sort of like this Tamdhu. It’s a solid sherry matured whisky; it’s reliable, great value for money, and beats these NAS Macallans coming out with marketing back stories, and fancy tv ads (despite ones being pulled by the UK authorities). Why pay an arm and a leg for lousy Macallans when there’s reliable solid options like this? This has all the classic sherry flavors of dried fruits, hazelnuts, with enough oak influence to know it’s not a youngster. Figs, some marzipan. Long finish, cinnamon and roasted nuts.
A solid 4 stars. At about $80, and average rating of 4.42, it’s about a 5.5% on a Price / Rating ratio. That’s pretty good considering 10% is for something like $50 that has perfect 5 ratings
Thanks @Generously_Paul for this sample!

@ToyFJ probably not. I was probably half buzzed while making up that equation. I got through my grad school the same way...😊
I’d like to understand more about your “price/rating ratio”. If this basis for comparison has any meaning, a $15 bottle rated 1.5 is equivalent to a $40 bottle rated 4.0. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
@LeeEvolved hey fancy that, the next day the package arrived! thanks for the trophies and certificates @mikael :-)
@LeeEvolved Ah Yeah, I haven't either. Last message from @mikael was end of Jan saying it was on its way shortly. Hey @mikael did the postman take a detour via Mars or get eaten by a dog :-)
@Sippy does @PBMichiganWolverine get anything special for reaching 600 tastings?
@LeeEvolved - nothing wrong with moderation. Life is like golf: tempo, tempo, tempo. :)
@kyle_brady I heard the bill failed...they wanted to tax $47 per ounce. Idiotic state.
@LeeEvolved no airplanes. And no electric cars. I guess one can have worse issues.
@PBMichiganWolverine - I wouldn’t drive a Tesla if Elon Musk paid me to. They look nice but I’d constantly be afraid the battery would die on some backwoods, podunk town road and I’m stuck in my own Wrong Turn movie sequel. No thank you.
@PBMichiganWolverine I’ll join you on the “Distiller for Cannabis” app and we can get a NJ tasting club together
@LeeEvolved wait...you didn’t get the Tesla as the award? I thought we all did.
@LeeEvolved I’m getting there as well (done).
@PBMichiganWolverine - oh yeah, congrats on 600 too! I thought I’d hit 500 by now but my interest in whisky is wavering- I think I might be done. 😲
@PBMichiganWolverine - monetize this? I still haven’t received my year-end Distiller user awards yet- or was that another Distiller early April Fools joke? Did they actually send anything to you other winners?
Congrats on 600 and glad you liked it.
@Rick_M nah...If I were, I’d be screaming “we need to monetize this!!!”
@cascode - he is the backbone of this site! I sometimes wonder if he’s a silent partner. :) @PBMichiganWolverine - Congrats! I’m sure you’ll make a 1,000 before I get to 100.
@cascode scary that I’m at 600. Maybe I’ll call it quits at 1000
@Soba45 I’m waiting till they legalize marijuana in NJ. Will be then having strains of that cash crop instead of tomatoes 😀
@1901 and combine with local New Jersey water from the Hudson , in making my whiskey. What can go wrong? 😀
@PBMichiganWolverine Bravo, and congrats on 600 informative and entertaining reviews. You're part of the backbone of this site, mate.
Ha yeah, our veggie growing was always very haphazard. My wife loved planting but not so much the maintenance and my motto was less is good. Concrete, slow grow grass and weed mat are my friends. I've now settled on just growing herbs... they are great as no maintenance, and very useful to have. Anyhow congrats on 600!
Nice review. Try barley this summer :) Congrats on hitting 600 (top quality) reviews btw...
