I think I'm one of the outliers on this one. It reminds me of the Balcones I had... the taste profile being quite full on, one dimensional and artificial. The spearmint profile of which I'm not a fan doesn't help. I got varnish and wood glue on the nose. Taste was better but didn't help I had after Bunnahabhain 25 I guess with all its complexity and subtlety. I'm struggling to see how this won so many awards, maybe like Balcones I missed the glory period. That spearmint is just way too overpowering for me..

@Soba45 HaHa! Yeah man that mint note needs a good candied ginger or something like that to help offset it. Stay away from Sagamore then if you don't like that spearmint! It's got a big one!
@dubz480 cheers. yeah there are a few flavour profiles now that I'm just not that tolerant of in higher doses. bitterness, excessive woodiness , Dr Pepper cherry flavour, lemony citrus acidic peat, and now mint/spearmint in bourbons. Getting fussy in my old age!
@PBMichiganWolverine Ah nice. it'll be interesting to see if there is batch variation or just difference working your way through a whole bottle. I imported a sample through master of malt. it popped up relatively recently on their site.
Nice review and interesting on the spearmint note. I have been getting that a lot with craft Ryes, especially those at higher proof points. I don't mind it personally but am with you and can be very pronounced for sure!
I have a bottle of this...will compare notes. How did you get this in NZ?! It’s very Colorado distributed here
