Kaiyō Japanese Mizunara Oak
Blended Malt — Japan

I can sit and smell this all day. The mizunara aroma permeates like a garden full of jasmine. Highly floral, incense like. The nose alone is a 5 out of 5. The palette is a few notches down though, unfortunately doesn’t live up to the nose. The jasmine garden becomes more waxy, honeycomb and shortbread biscuits.
I can see why Mizunara is generally more expensive than sherry or ex-bourbon. It’s highly porous, making it quite difficult to work with as compared to the others. But the aroma it imparts...just amazing. Thanks to @LeeEvolved for this generous pour

@PBMichiganWolverine - the store I bought these two from didn’t have the peated version. I do believe that it isn’t peated whisky- it’s just matured in a cask that previously held peated whisky. I would expect the results to be mildly smoky, but it still sounds very intriguing.
@LeeEvolved sounds good man. I think that about what it's going for. The Miz cask is $60ish and the Peated is like $66 if I recall correctly
@KRB80 you won’t be disappointed. Considering it’s made in JPN and it’s mizunara wood, the price is damn good.
Thx for the review. I’ve been wanting to try this and the CS version since it appeared a year and a half ago. They are pretty easy to find around here.
@LeeEvolved there’s a Peated version too...have you had that? Was curious to see if peat + mizunara is any good
@dubz480 - I’m about 3-4oz away from finishing my bottle of the CS. I think I paid just under $85 for it and would probably pay that again to land another bottle. I’d have to think a little harder if prices were much higher than that, however, but it is quite a tasty bottle of whiskey and I think you’ll really enjoy it. Cheers.
@PBMichiganWolverine @LeeEvolved Cheers for the reviews! I see this and the cask strength available right now. Sounds like I should grab the cask strength ASAP! I
@LeeEvolved and I think this is actually made in Japan? Unlike a bunch of others coming out now
Just wait until you try the cask strength version. The palate delivers there- I wish I had bought more of both of these Japanese malts.
