Coming back to this one for a second time (second bottle)
Bought this one straight from the distillery in Louisville Kentucky. Sourced whiskey from MGP. We won’t see actual Michters distilled spirits for a couple years. Even though it sourced, the whiskey is still one of my favorites. They choose their mash bill from MGP very carefully.
Nose: vanilla and lots of it. Followed closely by cinnamon, caramel, cane sugar, barrel tannins, and cherries.
Taste: cinnamon brown sugar, vanilla extract, sweet savory barrel spice fades into a sweet caramel cherry note. Extremely reminiscent of warm cherry cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This is probably the most friendly American whiskey I have ever had. It’s on par with the easiness of a nice Speyside or highland scotch. This will always be one of my go to’s for a nice, easy, flavorful drinker. Michters...I cannot wait to try whiskey you guys have actually distilled and aged yourselves!!

@Stuhendricks1 Thank you for the list, I’ve tried a few of those ones myself and am more partial to scotch but my fiancé is the true bourbon drinker so I like to keep a variety of both at the house. The Weller’s are slightly difficult to find but one of my favorites when I do find them and I’ll have to give the old forrester a try as I’ve yet to taste that one. With your recommendations of the Islay scotches it seems we have a similar taste as Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig 10 are staples in my house hold but have you tried the Jura seven wood? Not as much of a peat in the face flavor but I find myself always replacing the bottle every time I finish it off.
@chrismaloney Absolutely! Keep in mind I favor scotch more than bourbon, but I still have a special place in my heart for bourbon. Top 5 (as of now) under $80... 5. Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Extremely affordable and one of my favorite go to whiskeys. 4. Isaac Bowman Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels. This might be a VA only whiskey as far as availability goes, but it is absolutely amazing and full bodied. 3. Weller Special Reserve (Green label). Just...if you find a bottle...any of them...buy it. 2. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. Dessert whiskey but one of the most complex under $80 I have ever had. 1. Ardbeg 10 year. Huge HUGE peat punch, but good god damn if it isn’t my favorite whiskey right now... Bourbon #1 (if I’m ruling out scotch): Old Forrester Prohibition Style. Unbelievable.
Do you have a top 5 whiskeys for $80 or less? I’ve enjoyed reading your review on this bottle and came up with much of the same notes myself. I don’t normally ask for recommendations but do to the similar ratings I’m curious to see if you have any “favorites” I haven’t tried yet
