Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed

Subtle smoke on the nose along with earthy, dusty, and vegetal notes…nothing too big. The taste changes all that though. Fruity (lemon/lime), earthy, vegetal, minty (spearmint), and some smoke all in one balanced package. Peppery/piney finish with subtle notes of burnt rubber. It’s a classic for a reason.

@KRB80 oh it’s a pain. I go in looking for something specific. Can’t find it. I walk out with something I don’t want. I need to catalogue these like a library coding system
@PBMichiganWolverine if you can find it..ha!! Love it. A good problem to have. ;)
@KRB80 I think I have a bottle of the Arroqueno—-will need to open it up ( if I can find it )
@Richard-ModernDrinking likewise! I’ve not opened anything new in ages , but will in the next few weeks. A Friday eve in mid-to-late July?
@PBMichiganWolverine When's our next tasting session? I've got some saved for you
@PBMichiganWolverine I’ve had it from a friend’s open bottle and it’s fantastic. I’ll be sure write down my thoughts when I open it. :)
@dubz480 thx for the rec. Its noted. :)
@KRB80 I’m curious to get your take on the Arroqueno. That’s reviewed great reviews. I’ve only had this Chichicapa from Del Maguey, and absolutely loved it
@KRB80 Nice man! As a cheap and cheerful Mezcal I quite enjoy Montelobos. It's around $40 in my market and nice big smoke filled flavor profile. It's like the Lap 10 of Mezcal to me!
@dubz480 Cheers! I’m definitely going all-in on the mezcal lately. Aside from the ones I’ve written about this past week, I’ve bought Del Maguey Madrecuixe, Del Maguey Arroqueno, Del Maguey Wild Papalome, Real Minero Largo, El Jolgorio Jabali, El Jolgorio Tepeztate, El Jolgorio Cenizo, and El Jolgorio Tobala. I guess it’s the summer of mezcal!
Probably the best Mezcal I have had to date! Cheers!
