Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

What an awesome looking glass decanter! But does the quality of Willett Pot Still Reserve live up to the appearance of the bottle? Well, if you have a sweet tooth, you are going to love this bourbon. Sticky honey, confectionery and cheese cake dominate the nose, enriched by apricots, mild spices and hints of sage. On the palate, the rye and barley content of the mash bill becomes more obvious. Sweet and spicy flavors take turns with fresh notes of floral, leading to a satisfying, medium-length finish. Although not spectacular, this is skillfully made bourbon.

@Slainte-Mhath that’s exactly my case—-I bought Broras , Hanyu, and Karuizawa ages ago...but I drink so little so it never got opened. Now it’s worth exponentially more than what I paid
@Slainte-Mhath Exactly. Here I bought 2 and drank one. it's decent, but nothing amazing. With the way the value is going I will absolutely be looking to trade or sell! Unlike the Yama 18 which I am sure is outstanding, this one is just average!
@dubz480 As you have mentioned, it does happen that you buy a bottle with the intention to open it one day, but suddenly you realize that the price has gone through the roof. When I bought my 3 bottles of Yamazaki 18, they were between 200-300 € each, but now they are approaching 600-700 €. I still intend to open one or two of them, but maybe I'll use them in a bottle swap. You simply start wondering 'should I really pop the cork?' when you see the price curves of certain bottles...
@Slainte-Mhath 💯% agree. I typically only purchase what I intend to drink.
The amount of money some collectors/investors pay for certain bottles is completely irrational from a drinker's point of view...
@dubz480 hold on to that one. I literally just saw one behind locked glass door for $1000. I thought it might be another Pappy wannabe
@PBMichiganWolverine oh yeah man. I $40 and bought 2 about 18 months ago. Killed one bottle of it. It was ok but honestly not great by any stretch. It was a solid $40 bottle. Nothing more. That said I am holding onto this sealed one! It will continue to gain value as only 5,200 bottles were ever produced
@dubz480 the 80th one is silly expensive. I’ve seen it for $1000.
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah they now have a 4 yr old Rye that is there juice and an old bardstown release that is all their juice. I have their 80th Anniversary Bourbon that is BiB and also their own Distillate.
@Slainte-Mhath @dubz480 I think just the 2 and 3 yr old Willett are not sourced. But those are hard to find
@Slainte-Mhath Ah very cool. That sounds about right based on taste so I am sure it's correct! Cheers for the info!
@dubz480 I read that it had 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% barley in the mash bill. Not sure if this has changed, though.
@Slainte-Mhath great review as always. This is a100% sourced Bourbon from multiple Kentucky Distilleries. Mashbill is undisclosed but is for sure a high corn mashbill. Cheers!
Additional comment: This review is for batch 16G01 (5 cl miniature). However, I am not entirely sure if this bourbon was sourced (from Heaven Hill?), or actually distilled and matured at Willett Distillery. Whatever the case, it's a very solid dram in a cool looking bottle!
