The nose keeps switching back and forth between butterscotch and cheesy jalapenos (jalapeno poppers). The taste is very green...jalapeno peppers, roasted agave, slight wintergreen mint, backed with some caramel sweetness. The finish very vegetal but dipped in raw honey and sprinkled with black pepper. A bit hot like most Vagos but I expect it to round out a bit as the bottle volume continues to go down. Great espadin as to be expected from a Vago.

@KRB80 My Elote is also super fresh December 2018 bottling that I opened this past February. I don’t have the bottle in front of me but it’s also a few ABV higher than others I’ve seen. I am not yet overly experienced in mezcal as it’s difficult to get in PA. I think I may have only had 7-8 different offerings.
@SkipZ good to know! A friend of mine has an open bottle of Elote that I gave yet to try. I also have a bottle of the Emigdio Jarquin Espadin from Vago and I prefer the Barriga batch. The Emigdio batch has less butterscotch and has this odd papyrus note.
@KRB80 the Elote definitely mellows out and sweetens a bit as the bottle dwindles. Out of the gate it was heavy with earthy garden mulch, with some funky vegetable flavors. Oddly I don’t get much corn flavor at all here. I think it gives it a unique mouthfeel more than anything. Maybe like a hint of a grilled corn tortilla that got a little dark around the edge. I really didn’t care for it at first but it has morphed into a fantastic mezcal. Cheers!
@PBMichiganWolverine I’ve loved all the Vagos that I’ve had so far. I’m not interested in any mezcal that adds stuff to it though, including pechugas. However, a friend picked up a bottle of the Elote last night and I will definitely be tasting it.
This one sounds interesting. I’ve only tried one Vago, the Elote. Wasn’t a fan of that, was too much like roasted corn
