Fantastic! This GD15 was bottled in 2013 and, since GD was mothballed from 1996-2001, this is a minimum of 17-18 years old.
This one is all about the mouthfeel - its incredibly rich and syrupy but not cloyingly so; it travels evenly across the palate and has a long warming finish.
The flavors are deliciously melded together - a combo of dark chocolate, toffee, toasty oak, tangerine, bing cherry, roasted almonds, candied ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Can’t speak to the new GD15 but this one is wonderful!

@PBMichiganWolverine need to get myself a time machine
@Whiskali yeah, ages ago, these were actually affordable. Even the Hibiki 21 I opened up last year, I bought for barely $150. That was 7 years ago.
@PBMichiganWolverine Karuizawa for $100?! Wowza! Well good on you for sharing the whiskey love; that’s what it’s all about. My wife and I are on our way to visit friends as I type and I packed a bunch of samples for my buddy. No Brora or Karuizawa but some good ones to explore nonetheless.
@Whiskali and now you see the severe imbalance in the equation. R = A / I ^10. My rate of consumption = to acquisition divided by intake raised to the 10. I actually acquired my Brora when it was $300. And the Karuizawa when it was barely $100. I’m waiting for a few special occasions to open those. Last year, I had a special occasion and opened a Hibiki 21 —sent a pour over to a few folks here. And this year, just has a little special occasion so opened up a 50yr old blend and sent to a few folks here
@PBMichiganWolverine 1 ounce/week?! So just over 2 bottles/year? At that rate it’s going to take you 275-300 years to make it through that collection! :) Also, that is incredible you have more than one Brora. That’s my unicorn but prices are absolutely insane right now. Where/when did you buy?
@Whiskali i don’t think i can increase my drinking ..I have one 1 ounce pour every Friday or Saturday, so once / week. I seriously need to get organized. I think I’m probably in the 550-600 bottle range...with some really rare ones well over 50-60 bottles ( rare as in 80s Macallan 18, a 45 yr old sherry matured Macallan, Yoichi 20, a few Karuizawas, some Hanyus, 2 or so Broras, etc).
@PBMichiganWolverine this stash of yours sounds unbelievable! How many bottles do you think you have total? I’ve never had a 90’s bottling of GD15. Hunt yours down and crack it open!!! And please report back; would really like to hear how it is. Also, just a thought but it might be worth paying someone to organize your collection .... OR start drinking more so you can get it to a more manageable place!
@Whiskali I’m guessing early 90s, since GD was closed mid-90s. Now...the hard part is finding that bottle. I’m too damn lazy to look in my stash for it
@PBMichiganWolverine Yes, there should be a bottling date stamped on the back of the bottle towards the bottom. It’s sometimes hard to see when there is still whiskey in the bottle but, if you hold it up to the light, you should be able to make it out.
@Whiskali @dubz480 I have a 90s GD 15...is there any way to tell exactly which year? It’s the old white label one.
@dubz480 that old GD15 is worth keeping your eyes out for though.
@dubz480 Now those are great prices! Buy three of those instead of the GD15.
@Whiskali at the same store Lag 16 is $65, Lap 10 is $29 and Hibiki is $45! Oh and Glendronach 12 is only $46. So go figure
@dubz480 Wow, that’s way overpriced. You could buy an old bottling on one of the online auction sites for less than that.
@dubz480 what year is it? That is pretty pricey. I see the new 15 on some of the UK sites for $80 plus shipping. But I think the value is currently better on the 18 and 21, which you can get for $100 and $130 respectively and the juice each of them is at least 23-24 years old."
@Whiskali I know. It's the new batch to boot! Crazy. We typically get awesome pricing out in AZ but not on Glendronach apparently!
Revival out in my Market is going for $140 and the 18 is $160. Can't bring myself to pull the trigger! Your review does make it tempting though!
@PBMichiganWolverine They have the stocks for it to be a true 15. I had heard rumors that they were still mixing in some older stock so the contrast wasn’t so drastic but that hasn’t been confirmed.
The new Revival, I think, unfortunately, is really 15
