Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

This one has a ton of hype so I went in with some skepticism.
Nose: Vanilla, brown sugar, classic bourbon nose. Orange peel and oatmeal as well.
Flavor: More caramelized sugars and vanilla, more ethanol burn than I'd expect. Some grassy notes and baking spices.
Finish: Spicy finish with quite a bit of wood. The sweetness quickly faded in to a long finish with baking spices and red hots.
I liked this but it wasn't nearly as good as its reputation. I'd think at $35-$45 this is a good whiskey for a BIB but at current secondary as much as $100 this is not worth the cost.

@BeppeCovfefe Even though I don't really care for the HM10, I could not agree more! Maybe if we lobby hard enough we can get an AWARD bestowed upon I.W. Harper NAS. Then we can clear some of the NC shelves of that $35 clunker.(aka Floor Wax)
This one is another of the WOTY award sucks that blow out a bottle typically always found at a reasonable price. This bottle collected dust in liquor stores for years w/ a modest 30ish price tag, then the AWARD happens followed by the huge sucking sound of the "bourbon choochs" running lose on the market. We can hope the next big award pop will quell the attention as the unbridled exuberance moves on to the next label, that's the great thing about these trends, the next one's right around the corner.
