This is a young one (4-5 years old) but because of the extreme heat in Indian, it ages faster than other whiskies.
I had a 10 ounce sample and, when I first opened it, I was surprised by the lively flavors. I got caramel, applesauce with cinnamon, almonds, and a touch of smoke. The 50% abv definitely helps punch things up a couple of notches.
I had hoped that it would continue to develop as it oxidized but that didn’t really happen. It started losing its energy, the flavors became more muted and it started showing it’s youth.
Overall, it’s interesting enough that I’ll look to explore other, older Amruts in the future but don’t plan to buy a full bottle of the Fusion.

@Whiskali he was a visionary and put India on the whiskey producing map. That’s unfortunate. Hopefully the new leader will carry in the predecessor’s footsteps
@Whiskali I tried their 10yr Greedy Angels ( the small bottle). Was FIERY, but after it calmed down, and a drop of water...was amazing.
@PBMichiganWolverine also read that Amrut’s chairman and managing director passed away a couple of months ago. Unclear if/how things will change but it’s unfortunate nonetheless; sounds like he was a visionary leader and creative in approach.
@PBMichiganWolverine yeah, Spectrum has been on my list to keep an eye out for but it’s turned into a bit of a white whale. I just read your full review on it; sounds amazing. Have you had an opportunity to try their Greedy Angels bottling? That also sounds really good but impossible to find.
Typo—-Amrut Spectrum, not 007
@Whiskali there’s a few Amrut experiments which worked out really well. Intermediate sherry was one of them. But by far the best was Amrut 007. They made a barrel of 7 different woods. The outcome was amazing. And the market took notice, the bottle skyrocketed from $120 to well over $600.
@Whiskali yeah, totally agree with @1901 —-I find that Amrut benefits hugely from just a bit of water. It’s so potent neat; loosens up a bit with just a few drops.
@1901 yeah, I was just working from a sample so had limited ability to play around with it. But maybe I should have put some water on it.
@PBMichiganWolverine that’s interesting; I’ve never heard of a distillery using that technique of going back and forth between bourbon and sherry casks. Wonder if it actually makes a noticeable difference.
I rated this similarly. The abv was punchy, particularly on the nose. But watered down and left for a while to open I found this came into its own
I wasn’t a fan of this one, but they have an Intermediate Sherry which is really good. They take sherry matured, then mature it in ex-bourbon, and then back to sherry.
